Robin Hood Theatre Review
What’s hilarious, very entertaining and an anticipated annual holiday production each year? It’s Ross Petty Productions annual Christmas pantomime, and this year’s ROBIN HOOD, The EnvironMENTAL Family Musical is continuing the tradition to resounding applause.
Yesterday, I picked my children up from school to start the special outing they look forward to each year … dinner, a stroll to admire Christmas lights and the chance to see the annual Ross Petty Productions Musical. The kids were brimming with excitement, having previously experienced Aladdin and Cinderella at the beautiful Elgin Theatre.
Robin Hood, The EnvironMENTAL Family Musical
In one sentence, Robin Hood, The Prince of Thieves, must win over Maid Marion, while continuing to elude the Sheriff of Nottingham, CEO of Nottingham Lumber, who is about to raze Sherwood Forest in order to keep his company the leader in its field. It’s mean versus green, with lots of laughs along the trail!
How Does ROBIN HOOD Continue a Beloved Holiday Tradition?
ROBIN HOOD is a musical that targets the funny bone of audience members young and old, and indeed hits the bulls-eye.
The credentials of the cast is fabulous and the talent was evident. Canadian Idol winner Eva Avila, Sound of Music’s Jeff Irving, We Will Rock You’s Yvan Pedneault, Royal Canadian Air Farce’s Jessica Holmes star amongst a terrific group of actors. Both children and adults alike smiled at the energetic musical numbers and clapped in admiration.
Anyone who saw Cinderella last year, will also be delighted to see the talented Dan Chameroy back as Nurse Plumbum Von Botox. Without giving too much away, there is a scene that will make you smile and forever change the images in your mind as you listen to the Winter Olympic Games theme song.
The show offers something for everyone. The children enjoy the slapstick comedy, costumes, dancing, tremendous singing voices and the chance to boo very loudly at the villian (Ross Petty, the ‘bad guy’ we love to hate). The parents enjoy all of this, together with laugh-out-loud, timely jokes which fly over the children’s heads.
Through the humour, there are important messages for children about taking care of the environment and each other.
Robin Hood will be playing at the Elgin Theatre until January 3, offering lots of opportunities to make this musical your annual family tradition.
