Toronto, ON – MuchMusic’s SodaPOP music festival hits the road for their first annual nationwide tour, kicking off June 5th in Vancouver, BC. The tour brings some of today’s hottest international and domestic pop artists to 16 Canadian cities from Vancouver to Halifax. Headlining this year’s festival is Hannah Montana’s Emily Osment supported by Toronto born Singer/Songwriter Jesse Labelle, R&B sensation Danny Fernandes, dance-rock outfit The New Cities and introducing pop phenom Alyssa Reid.
The MuchMusic sponsored festival is a young adult focused lifestyle event that promises to be more than just a “concert”. As a fully interactive experience it will incorporate large screens with featured video footage from the artists and MuchMusic, gaming stations and interactive booths. As well the festival offers audiences a unique opportunity to interact directly with the artists through a post show “fanfest”/autograph session that will take place following each night’s performance.
MuchMusic’s SodaPOP 2010 is pleased to introduce their “Pop Goes The World” campaign in support of UNICEF. UNICEF will be onsite raising awareness and funds for the charities long-term reconstruction efforts in Haiti. With nearly half the population of Haiti under the age of 15, it is fitting that the festival’s young artists and audiences should have the opportunity to assist UNICEF in their efforts. The festival will be selling “SodaPOP 2010” souvenir balls which act as the purchaser’s pass to the post show “Fanfest”/autograph session. A portion of the sales from these “SodaPOP 2010 souvenir balls will be donated to UNICEF. At the end of each night’s performance all participating artists will join together in an updated rendition of the 80’s hit single “Pop Goes The World”. A studio re-recording of the song by all the artists will also be made available for sale digitally with profits going to UNICEF’s Haiti efforts.
“UNICEF Canada is thrilled to be a part of MuchMusic’s SodaPOP Tour 2010 to support our on-going work in Haiti,” says Susan Larkin, Director of Community Engagement for UNICEF Canada. “The tour gives Canadian youths the opportunity to help their Haitian peers who are the most vulnerable during this disaster. We sincerely thank the tour organizers, sponsors, artists and fans for helping us to raise funds that will put Haiti’s children at the centre of reconstruction for a new Haiti.”

The weather may be constantly changing, but Canada is ‘hot’ for families all year round. Some advanced planning can help make your family’s March Break feel like a holiday.
A few simple steps can make each day fun and easy:
1. Check the local weather forecast for the weekend to help you decide whether an indoor or outdoor event is best! Have a backup plan ready in case the forecast changes for outdoor choices.
2. Consider the type of activities your children enjoy. Think about their nap times (if appropriate), interests, ages and what could be new and exciting. A child’s smile is contagious!
3. Find out what is taking place in your community. You will discover lots of fun events and activities for families across Canada listed in our Events Calendar at http://www.KidsAroundCanada.com/events.
4. Do what is necessary to ensure that you can attend your chosen event. Confirm that the event information has not changed using the contact information provided. Pre-register or purchase tickets (it is never too early to secure a space). Now you can tell your children where you are going unless you want it to be a special surprise!
5. Find out if food will be available at the event and whether you are permitted to bring in your own snacks and drinks if none are provided.
6. Pack your backpack of supplies the night before your activity to make preparations easier during the day. This may include food, drinks, extra warm clothing or baby supplies.
7. When you wake up you will have your plans, your bag, and your tickets ready (if required). All that is left to do is have fun!
You are not only planning outings, you are building special memories for your child(ren).
If you want to recreate a ‘holiday at home’ over this coming March Break, consider the following fun tips for bringing a vacation to you.
Transform your Home in Small Ways
a) Make fun placemats or provide special activities for your children at mealtimes, with printables, crossword puzzles, word searches, jokes and more.
b) Buy a bunch of flowers for your kitchen table or bathroom.
c) Splurge on one or more of your favourite toiletries for the week.
d) Cut up fruit the night before, so that it is waiting for you at breakfast time.
