Rural Roots, Cumberland Heritage Museum (Cumberland)
For the first time, the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum is featuring rare breed farm animals. Tamworth pigs, Canadian horses, Chantecler chickens, Ridley Bronze turkeys plus period-appropriate (1920s and 1930s) rabbits, sheep, ducks and geese will be on-site thanks to Rare Breeds Canada and local farmers. Also on hand will be exhibitions and working demonstrations of heritage agricultural machinery and equipment. The steam powered machinery and equipment offers visitors a look back on farming of yesteryear. Those with an interest in gardening won’t be disappointed as we start to sow our seeds for our autumn harvest. Amongst other activities, visitors will be able to plant their own pumpkins, watch them grow over the summer and harvest them in the fall.
